Durood e Muqaddas: A Special Prayer for Blessings

Durood e Muqaddas (also spelled Darood-e-Muqaddas, Darood Muqadas, or Durood Muqadas) is a respected prayer that Muslims say to ask Allah to bless Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). 1. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the words of Muhammad, the actions of Muhammad, the states of Muhammad, and the companions of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

2. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the body of Muhammad, the stomach of Muhammad, the prayers of Muhammad, the allegiance of Muhammad, and the Buraq of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

3. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the praise of Muhammad, the reward of Muhammad, and the nightly prayers of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

4. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the praise of Muhammad, the reward of Muhammad, and the shelter of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

5. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the majesty of Muhammad, the beauty of Muhammad, the eminence of Muhammad, the direction of Muhammad, and the curls of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

26. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the affection of Muhammad, the protection of Muhammad, the existence of Muhammad, and the trust of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

27. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the aspirations of Muhammad, the guidance of Muhammad, and the conduct of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

28. O my Lord, by the sanctity of the orphanhood of Muhammad, and the ease of Muhammad, may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

29. There is no deity but Allah; Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. May Allah send prayers and peace upon him, his family, and his companions, as many times as is written in the Preserved Tablet, by the pen, in every day, night, hour, breath, and moment—one hundred thousand times over—until the Day of Judgment.

30. Indeed, the allies of Allah, no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.

31. By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the Merciful.

How to Include Durood e Muqaddas in Daily Life

• After Fajr Prayer: Say it once to start your day with blessings.

• After Tahajjud Prayer: Say it 7 times and make a heartfelt dua. Reciting Durood Akbar in the last part of the night is also highly recommended by many spiritual teachers.

• On Thursdays: Say it 11 times for seven Thursdays to seek protection and healing.

• For Children: Women who wish to have children can say it 3 times daily, blow on water, and drink it.

Historical Context

The practice of sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is deeply rooted in Islamic tradition. The Quran commands believers:

“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.”
